これらのシンクタンクは、日本の社会にあって重要な役割を担っており、政府や諸団体への助言や情報提供を行っている。

シンクタンクの財源が、慈善団体から確保されるものもある。

多くの大企業・金融機関が、自社のシンクタンクを運営している。
